How do you calculate interest and the amount due for spread payments?

We calculate the monthly interest on the outstanding balance at the beginning of the completed month. If you’ve made any extra payments in the completed month within 14 calendar days after the monthly close, the interest will be calculated on the unpaid balance at the beginning of the completed month minus the amount(s) that you’ve paid off.

The interest due on the completed month will be added to the outstanding balance at the beginning of the next month. That means the interest due is part of the new outstanding balance at the beginning of the next month. The interest on the completed month is stated separately in your account statement.

Why do I pay interest on my spread payments?

Accepted Answer

When you spread your payments, you borrow from us. That’s why we charge interest on your outstanding balance. The interest rate on spread payments is the same as the maximum cost of borrowing permitted by law, which changes from time to time. That will affect the amount of interest that you pay.

Will I be registered with the Central Credit Registration Office (BKR) if I use spread payments?

Accepted Answer

If you spread your credit card repayments, this will be registered with the Central Credit Registration Office so that banks and lenders will know you have a loan and how much you’ve borrowed. Find everything you need to know about the Central Credit Registration Office.

Question 4

I already have spread payments on my credit card/platinum card. What will change for me?

Accepted Answer

You can continue using spread payments. Every month, 5% of the outstanding balance on your credit card will automatically be collected from your current account (with a minimum of €45). You can no longer raise your limit, but you can still lower it. And you can always cancel spread payments.

We’ll see whether to keep offering spread payments in this way to customers who currently use this feature. If we do decide to change anything, we’ll contact you personally.

I currently have a credit card with spread payments but want to switch to a platinum card. Can I do that?

Yes, you can switch to a platinum card as soon as you’ve cancelled spread payments on your credit card.

I have trouble paying my full balance. Can I spread my payments?

Accepted Answer

Question 7

More than 5% of my balance has been collected. Why?

Accepted Answer

You’ll pay more in a month if that’s when we charge the annual fee for your credit card. We do that once a year.

Can I request spread payments again if I’ve accidentally cancelled this feature?

Accepted Answer

Spread payments can no longer be requested. Once you cancel this feature, it cannot be renewed.
